BEHIND THE SCENES AND INSIDE OUR CAMERA BAGS // FB LIVE

One of the new things we’ve been doing this year has been going live on Facebook. I mentioned in my earlier post that sometimes it’s so easy to start doubting your skills even though at the same time I’m thinking that hey, I have something to say too and things I want to talk about. Things I want to teach, things I’m (and we are) passionate about! We are super awkward when it comes to being on video, but life begins outside of your comfort zone! ;) Our goal is to go live at least once per season, possibly even more frequently. It would be awesome to hear about your thoughts – what do you want to hear about? In our latest Facebook Live we talked about what’s in our camera bags and what can be done with some of the things we use. Jouni is always referring to them as kilke and it seems to be gizmo in English – so I’ll refer to that stuff as gizmo from now on. When we’re choosing our cameras, objectives and everything else, two of the most important things are that the gear is as lightweight as possible and that creating photographs with them is fun! That’s why it’s not that uncommon to find us in hardware stores or places not related to photography at all, shopping for fun things to give a little something extra to our photographs. After going through that phase of thinking that the more expensive/big/glorious camera gear we get, the better our photographs will look like, we have understood that camera gear is just what it is, something to help us achieve the things we see in our heads. As long as your gear is working as it should be, there’s no need to invest in new stuff just for the sake of buying new stuff.

So, what’s inside our camera bags?

Bodies: Nikon D750, vara-/kakkosrungot Nikon D610 & Nikon D700
Most commonly used objectives: Nikkor 50mm/1.4G, Nikkor 85mm/1.8G, Nikkor 35mm/1.4G, Nikkor 55mm/1.2, Nikkor 105mm/2.5, Sigma 35mm/1.4 HSM ART, Sigma 85mm/1.4 EX DG HSM, Helios 58mm/2, intentionally broken Nikkor 50mm/1.8D and not so commonly used Sigma 50mm/1.4 EX DG HSM, Nikkor 17-35mm/2.8D IF-ED and Minolta MD Soligor 85-205mm f3.8

We briefly mentioned Double Exposure technique and below is an example of how it looks like. We will be doing a separate post about this technique later, but basically it’s about taking two photographs that are merged together as one either in camera or later in a photo editing software.
