Lana Del Rey – God Knows I Tried
—
A few years ago I found something that became somewhat of an obsession; Mount Everest and mountaineering. I watched every documentary and movie I could find. Mountains have always felt like home, although mountains have always been something distant to me. Finland wasn’t lucky enough to get them. In the last couple of years I’ve been lucky enough to make mountains a part of my life when traveling entered my life. After that we’ve made awesome journeys and hiked up and down mountains and even though there’s been times when I’ve felt like I need to give up, I’ve found strength to go on and reach the top. I doubt I’ll ever start dreaming about climbing Everest myself, but I’m fascinated by and admire people who are willing to work on the edge of their limits, pushing themselves to reach their goals. Without worrying about possible misplacing their steps, always keeping the top of the mountain in their mind. So many have lost their lives trying to make their goals and dreams a reality. One of those was Ueli Steck who I followed on/off in social media during these years. This past April he misplaced his step, slipped and fell to his death.
His death had an impact on me. It made me stop.
Life is so incredibly short. We spend way too much time worrying instead of making steady steps toward our goals. We fear failure and let past failures define us and slow us down. But this week, make it a habit of stopping yourself when you start worrying and instead live a little bit more. Let’s live right here, right now. With no fear.
“And now I’ll just go, and only worry about the events that lie ahead of me. Day by day, one by one. It is the here and now that counts. What comes next is uncertain in any case. Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.” -Ueli Steck
